Scheduling issues will prevent Batwoman star Ruby Rose from attending San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The news comes as Batwoman, the newest entry in The CW’s Arrowverse, is gearing up to begin its first season. Batwoman was ordered to series back in May and follows Kate Kane, a street fighter who takes over protecting Gotham City from her cousin Bruce Wayne (a.k.a Batman). She must work to conquer her demons and become a beacon of hope for the residents of her city. Batwoman is also notable for being the first superhero series to feature an out lesbian as its leading character.

Batwoman was first introduced during last year’s Elseworlds crossover, which found characters from Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl heading to Gotham City for Kate Kane’s help. However, it’s since been revealed that the pilot for Batwoman takes place prior to the events of Elseworlds. Despite this, Batwoman is expected to appear in the highly anticipated Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, which will begin airing this December, before concluding in January 2020. That crossover will be the Arrowverse’s biggest one yet, with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow all participating alongside Batwoman.

Rose shared the SDCC 2019 news in a video posted to Instagram. In it, she called missing the event “devastating” before explaining that her Batwoman schedule was to blame. She said:

Rose then closed the video with a thank you to fans, saying “I love you guys. I will make it up to you, and I’m very appreciative of all the support so far.” Check out the video below:

“Just know that we tried everything that we could humanly to be there…it wasn’t until really now that we realized there wasn’t any other way to finish this episode, this ambitious episode that we’re doing and create this amazing show that really, really is special, and we want you to love it and be proud of it and be entertained and to laugh and to cry and to be empowered, and that means that, in this particular instance, I gotta work…”

Rose was scheduled to appear on two panels on Saturday, one of which was the Batwoman Pilot Screening and Q&A. Though Rose won’t be able to make it, fans can expect to see many of their other favorite Arrowverse stars. Arrow, Supergirl, and The Flash will all have special video presentations and Q&A sessions on Saturday. Arrow’s will be especially momentous, as it will be the show’s last SDCC panel ever. The series will do a 10-episode eighth and final season this fall, before concluding with the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

Though fans are probably disappointed to hear that Rose won’t be at SDCC 2019, they may see her there at some point. The WB has brought its DC shows to SDCC pretty consistently since Arrow premiered in 2012.  Even though the flagship series is ending, fans have proven that they’ll continue to tune in for superhero shows and are even happy to see new series like Batwoman added to the lineup. If the show does well this season, Rose potentially has years of Comic-Con appearances ahead of her, giving fans many opportunities to meet their hero.
