Ruby Rose opens up about being cast as the titular hero in The CW’s upcoming Batwoman TV show. Last month, news broke out that Arrowverse is once again looking to expand their portfolio by launching a brand new series centering on Kate Kane - “an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.” The upcoming series will be the latest addition to the growing DC TV universe following the debut of Black Lightning earlier this year (although the Cress Williams-led show has yet to directly connect with other series in the lineup).
Yesterday, The CW finally announced that Rose will be playing Kate Kane on the small screen to the delight of her fans. Other than the casting, nothing else had been divulged to the public with regard to the forthcoming show. Despite that, Rose is nothing but thrilled for the opportunity, expressing her excitement on social media about her upcoming gig.
Taking to her official Instagram account, Rose posted a side-by-side image of herself and Batwoman. In the caption, she wrote a heartfelt message addressing the huge milestone in her career as she’ll be the first openly headlining lesbian superhero on the screen. Check out her post below:
Fans are very happy with The CW’s decision to cast Rose as Batwoman, and the comments section on the actress’ social media proves that. Countless people are sending her support and expressing their excitement on her upcoming debut as a superhero. Not only is her casting a step towards diversification of Hollywood and representation for the LGBT community, Rose is also a good actress with an impressive résumé under her belt which means that she’s a worthy addition to Arrowverse’s roster of great talent. She rose to stardom playing the charmingly sarcastic Stella Carin in Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, and since then she appeared in several blockbuster films such as xXx: Return of Xander Cage, John Wick: Chapter Two, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, as well as Pitch Perfect 3.
It will, however, take a little time before fans see Rose in her own TV show as the project is expected to launch fall 2019. Plot specifics of the show are still being kept tightly under wraps, but with Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns poised to executive producers, people can be assured that the show will be at least up to par with other franchises in the DC TV interconnected universe. Luckily, Kane will be part of this year’s special three-way crossover event involving Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is skipping the event this year) so viewers can have an idea what the Batwoman series will be like when it debuts next year.
