Good news for Batwoman fans as The CW gives the new series a full season 1 order. Batwoman debuted earlier this month as the fifth show to join the network’s popular Arrowverse. Shows in the same universe include Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. Batwoman tells the story of a Gotham City abandoned by Batman. Luckily, his cousin, Kate Kane (Ruby Rose), takes up the fight as the new superhero Batwoman. The series also stars Rachel Skarsten as Kate’s long-lost sister Beth and Meagan Tandy as Sophie, Kate’s ex-girlfriend from school. Rachel Maddow takes on the voice of Vesper Fairchild, Gotham City’s popular radio talk show host.

Though Batwoman has only just started its run, Rose made her first appearance as Kate Kane nearly a year ago, in 2018’s Elseworlds crossover. Kate formed a quick bond with characters from Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. She especially hit it off with Supergirl, leading to a report that star Melissa Benoist would make a guest appearance this fall. Either way, the two will cross paths during this season’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. That event will air this December and January across five shows, including Batwoman. During it, the Arrowverse heroes will unite to help a god-like being, The Monitor, stop the destruction of multiple Earths.

Per THR, Batwoman’s new order is for nine more episodes. These will be added on to the original 13 that The CW ordered back in May. So far, Batwoman has aired three episodes, with the fourth airing this Sunday. Rose recently made headlines regarding her stunt work on the series. She required surgery over the summer for two herniated discs that risked leaving her paralyzed. Rose posted a video of the experience to Instagram, explaining that she was curious about what happens during a surgery. She’s since stated that she may pull back on stunt work, saying, “Maybe I don’t have to do everything? Maybe there’s some that I can do once or twice…I think I’ve earned my stripes already.”

Batwoman has also drawn attention for confirming the existence of several popular DC characters in the Arrowverse. Wonder Woman, the Riddler, the Joker, and Robin have all been mentioned on the new series. Other Arrowverse shows have also referenced characters from Batman this season, most notably Arrow. In the Arrow season 8 premiere, Oliver Queen traveled to Earth-2’s Lian Yu. There, viewers caught a glimpse of Batman’s mask with an arrow through one eye. On Earth-1’s Lian Yu, which fans saw many times in the early seasons of Arrow, the mask belongs to Deathstroke.

Batwoman’s full season pickup shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to fans. The series fits right in with the Arrowverse and will be a good replacement for Arrow when that goes off the air, as the two are similar in tone. Plus, viewers have known for a long time that Batwoman would have its own hour in Crisis on Infinite Earths. This means that the series was guaranteed to make it until January at least. Even though Batwoman lasting through this season was pretty likely, fans can still rest easy knowing they won’t have to say goodbye to Gotham City any time soon.
