The Batman fan art shows what Robert Pattinson’s Batsuit would look like with a cape. Now that Ben Affleck has taken off the cowl forever, Pattinson is ready to step up and play the newest version of the Caped Crusader in the DCEU. Fans are understandably eager to find out what new dimensions Pattinson brings to the character as he carries on the legacy begun by Affleck, Christian Bale, Michael Keaton and all the others who’ve tackled the role of Bruce Wayne down through the years.

Lately, those eager fans have begun receiving their first glimpses of Pattinson’s Batman via official images and leaks. Recently, director Matt Reeves offered the first footage of Pattinson as Wayne when he released a screen test of the actor all decked out in the Batsuit. Now more images have made their way to the internet as spies have staked out The Batman’s shoot in Glasgow, Scotland, affording fans a good look at the new Batman in his suit riding the Batcycle.

Fans checking out the new leaked pictures, which show a stunt double atop the Batcycle, naturally noticed the lack of one particular detail: Batman’s cape. Fan artist BossLogic was immediately inspired to create an image that adds a cape to the suit, giving Batman a much more traditional look. See the image in the space below:

Of course, the fact that Pattinson’s stunt double isn’t wearing the cape in the images doesn’t mean Pattinson’s Batsuit will lack a cape. It’s entirely possible that the cape was left off for safety reasons as the double shot the scenes and will be added via CGI. Then again, maybe Reeves and company are getting set to go really off-beat with their depiction of Batman and ditch the cape entirely. A superhero of Batman’s stature getting rid of his cape would be a rather revolutionary move and would certainly lead to a ton of controversy, but arguably it would make sense, as the presence of such an unwieldy accessory would doubtless constitute a major pain in the neck for anyone attempting to make a career as an urban vigilante.

As practical as Batman getting rid of his cape arguably would be, it’s also indisputable that fans would raise a huge uproar over such a major change to the look of the character. Even if Reeves and Pattinson want to forge their own path with Batman and make some changes, it’s doubtful they would have the nerve to do something quite as extreme as giving the world a Capeless Crusader. And frankly, the costume just doesn’t look right when it doesn’t include that big, black cape flapping in the wind. Fans will find out everything Reeves and Pattinson have in store, revolutionary and otherwise, when The Batman makes its way to theaters.
