Next spring, Warner Bros. and DC Comics will continue their cinematic universe with the premiere of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the followup to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Following the debut of the film, which will introduce both Batman and Wonder Woman to the universe, Warner Bros. has a full slate of features planned, including a second release next year in the form of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, a number of standalone superhero movies, and a two-part Justice League team up.
Although the Comic-Con trailer was met with generally favorable reactions, the latest trailer for Batman V Superman has generated a fair amount of discussion, largely tied to the reveal of Doomsday, which some fans argue to be a spoiler. Now, a fan has re-cut the trailer to remove the reveal of Doomsday entirely.
YouTube user Kevin O’Fee (h/t Batman News) uploaded the new version of the Batman V Superman trailer (above) and labeled it as “fixed.” Essentially, O’Fee ended the trailer right before the reveal of Doomsday, and reordered the scenes preceding it to focus on the conflict between Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman (Henry Cavill) and Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman (Ben Affleck). Other moments, like Lois Lane (Amy Adams) calling Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) psychotic and Wonder Woman’s big entrance in saving Batman, were cut.

Warner Bros. and DC’s version of the trailer, roughly 30 seconds longer than O’Fee’s, was packed with new footage, including a tense exchange between Clark and Bruce at a party also attended by Lex. The trailer also confirmed the appearance of comic villain Doomsday, who had been rumored to be involved in the film, though the genetically-engineered creature veers away to its comic origins for the sake of Snyder’s feature. Still, the reveal was arguably the biggest of the third Batman V Superman trailer and has caused the most discussion. Some argue Doomsday’s appearance makes the fight between Batman and Superman less dramatic because they will need to team up - along with Wonder Woman - to face the creature.
Of course, many fans side with O’Fee, as evidenced by some of the comments on his YouTube upload. To be sure, the re-cut is more concise and clearly focuses only on the conflict between Bruce’s Gotham City-born skepticism of powered beings and Clark’s own beliefs about saving the world. But whether or not the reveal of Doomsday constitutes as a spoiler - and, further, whether it’s too big of a spoiler for a trailer - varies from fan to fan.

Some viewers may prefer O’Fee’s re-cut of the Batman V Superman trailer, but it fails to include some of the more exciting moments from Warner Bros.’ version, like Wonder Woman or the Holy Trinity standing together against Doomsday. There are certainly arguments to be made that those scenes, and the reveal of Doomsday, may have a negative impact on viewers’ experience when watching the final film since they’ll know much of what to expect. But, the trailer was still successful in generating a lot of excitement and discussion about Batman V Superman, which was likely Warner Bros., DC, and Snyder’s goal at the end of the day.
