In just over a month, two iconic titans of the superhero world are set to square off. Each day brings new, trailers, posters, and pieces of the overall superhero jigsaw that will be Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. And for a film this vast, which brings together numerous aspects of the rapidly expanding DC Multiverse, it requires expansive sets, CGI animation, and highly accurate props - all of which, in turn, require exacting specifications to meet the needs of fans and general audiences alike.
To further drive interest and showcase these key scenes and props from Batman V Superman, DC has now released two new film guides - ones which take fans deeper inside the movie.
Images from Guide to the Caped Crusader and Guide to the Man of Steel: Movie Flip Book are now online too, thanks to CBM. These companion books give fans a taste of Batman V Superman, including a number of stills from the film, set shots, and further glimpses of Batman’s high-tech arsenal. The Superman book, while mostly taken from Man of Steel, does offer new looks at Metropolis, Kal-El’s (Henry Cavill) statue, and his political adversaries. It also features new glimpses of Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg looking extra kryptonite green), and the Daily Planet staff - primarily Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne). The book also highlights Superman’s powers, including his invulnerability, super strength and speed, the ability to fly, and shoot heat rays from his eyes.

On the other side of the fence, the Dark Knight’s guidebook displays some of Ben Affleck’s superhero gear in the film, including a crossbow with some bat bolts, some seriously wicked looking pistols titled Grapnel Guns, smoke grenades, and of course, the vaults housing the Batsuits that give Bruce the added mechanical muscle to him face off against Krypton’s favorite son. The companion also takes fans on a brief tour of the Batcave, including the Bat Computer, and offers up some stills of Bruce Wayne’s late parents (Jeffrey Dean Moran and Lauren Cohen), trusty Alfred (Jeremy Irons), and shots of Bruce Wayne/Batman himself, responding to the Bat Signal.
Releasing these companion guides before the film is a fun way to feed fans with a few more details without revealing too much of the film (which DC/Warner Bros perhaps did in a previously-released Batman V Superman trailer). It’s also a great way to introduce casual moviegoers to these comic book players and their world(s) before the film hits theaters. The guides give moviegoers something more tangible than a flyer or trailer floating around the web, in addition to the broad spectrum of tools Batman will employ against Superman’s godlike powers.
Even with all these technological marvels at his behest, the Caped Crusader faces an uphill battle, though. His uphill battle is nothing, though, compared with DC’s landslide if they fail to do justice to the two icons and sabotage the fledgling Justice League saga. Fortunately, if director Zach Snyder’s is to be believed, Batman V Superman will indeed be one for the ages.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016, which is followed by Suicide Squad on August 5, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 16, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps. on June 19, 2020.
