Superman and Batman are teaming up yet again, only this time it’s not to take on a brand new threat, but an old one. In fact, it’s the FIRST one. The super friends have teamed up to fight obscure villains before, but in their upcoming series Batman/Superman, they’re facing the Ultra-Humanite himself.

For those unaware of this early villain, it’s important to know that he was the first real Superman super villain in Action Comics. Up until that point, Superman mostly fought corrupt landlords and extortionists. But the Ultra-Humanite was meant to be the ultimate embodiment of that corruption, using his superior intellect to run extortion scams which would somehow allow him to “dominate the Earth.” It might seem like a ludicrous plan… but that’s why Ultra-Humanite was a villain in a class of his own.

Ultra-Humanite later transferred his mind into the body of a giant albino gorilla (why not?) to take his most recognizable modern form. Now thanks to DC’s official solicitations for May 2020, fans can mark their calendars for the Ultra-Humanite’s return! Check out the official cover art and solicitations details below:

  • BATMAN/SUPERMAN #10 Release Date: May 27th, 2020 Written by: JOSHUA WILLIAMSON Art and cover by: CLAYTON HENRY Card stock variant cover by: RICCARDO FEDERICI Devastation in Gotham City! Following the events of a massive explosion in midtown, Batman and Superman pick up the pieces to learn who rigged the Atomic Skull like a bomb…and will they do it again? All will be revealed as the horrific plan of the Ultra-Humanite rains terror down on the lives of the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel!

It’s interesting that Ultra-Humanite’s plan seems to involve terrorism, since fans will have to wonder just how it fits into his goal of world domination. The official description confirms Ultra-Humanite somehow turned the supervillain Atomic Skull into a bomb – yet another brilliant scientist whose power and appearance give him his explosive moniker. So it’s bad news for fans who hoped the heroes might get a break from life-or-death conflicts. Especially after their series already pit them against fan evil version of Shazam, and a villain like The Batman Who Laughs who proved too much evil for even the Justice League to handle.

Batman/Superman #10 will also be released in the fallout of Superman’s secret identity being revealed, meaning there’s no telling how DC’s oldest supervillain will use this new knowledge to his advantage (but you can bet it won’t be good for Clark). You can pick up Batman/Superman #10 when it hits store shelves on May 27th, 2020.
