The newest Suicide Squad is about to face its greatest challenge yet! In May’s upcoming Suicide Squad #6, written by Tom Taylor and art by Bruno Redondo, the team will find themselves hunted by the one-and-only Batman.

This incarnation of the Suicide Squad, aka Task Force X, has already had quite the rollercoaster ride. Since issue #1, the team has experienced significant changes. In each issue, the squad has gotten smaller and smaller as it’s been a bloody affair for both new and old members. Harley Quinn and Deadshot lead the fresh faces from the Revolutionaries, another renegade team that the Suicide Squad was originally tasked with hunting down. Early on, however, after both teams took severe casualties, all of the remaining members joined together under one (dysfunctional) banner.

In its DC’s comic solicitations for May, the preview for the issue states, “The hunters have become the hunted! Task Force X is the world’s most wanted—on the run from heroes and villains alike and no closer to taking down the puppet master who’s been pulling their strings. But even if they go to ground, there’s no hiding from the World’s Greatest Detective, and it’ll take every deadly trick in their playbook for the Squad to escape the wrath of Batman!”

Tom Taylor is a rising star in the comic book industry. Starting out at Dark Horse, Taylor wrote for a number of Star Wars series prior to the property transferring back to Marvel, at which point he would write further stories in the Star Wars world. He also penned a popular run on All-New Wolverine, which focused on Laura Kinney aka X-23. Taylor wrote the critically acclaimed Injustice saga based on the video games series of the same name and more recently, wrote the popular horror comic DCeased and the upcoming sequel. He’s teamed up with Redondo on multiple occasions, who’s incredible art has brought the pair’s series to life.

It is unknown whether this face-off against Batman is a one-shot story or if it will carry on into the series. As this Suicide Squad is made up of many newcomers, it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Dark Knight. This is definitely not the first time that these two formidable forces have faced off against one another (they even co-starred in the animated feature Batman: Assault on Arkham), however, this time around should hold some surprises with the Revolutionaries putting the X-factor into Task Force X.

Suicide Squad #6 will hit shelves on May 27, 2020.
