This weekend saw Batman Day celebrations all around the world, and it looks like developer WB Games Montreal may have subtly hinted at a new title in the Batman: Arkham franchise during theirs. Although the three main games in the Arkham series (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight) were created by Rocksteady Studios, WB Montreal was the developer of the prequel game Batman: Arkham Origins, which saw Gotham as a snow-covered, Christmas playground filled with some of the Caped Crusader’s less-interesting villains.

Batman has been making the rounds over the weekend in all corners of the entertainment landscape in celebration of the character’s 80th anniversary, from leaked rumors about a Batman x Fortnite crossover to the surprise release of all six Arkham and LEGO Batman games for free in the Epic Games Store. The last game in the Arkham series, Arkham Knight, was released in 2015 and served as a finale for the franchise by closing out many of the plot threads that had been weaving in and out of the four titles while also introducing players to new gameplay mechanics like vehicle combat.

Judging from yesterday’s demonstration by WB Games Montreal, it looks like Arkham Knight might not be the last Arkham game after all. In a tweet, the company showed off a video feed of the famous Bat-Signal being projected onto their studio building, but the camera would occasionally glitch and flicker, showing off strange symbols. Multiple people quickly screen-grabbed the images in order to decipher their meaning, and it seems as if at least two of them reference former parts of the Batman mythos.

Knowledgeable fans have determined one of the symbols appears to be a demon’s head, which hints at the arrival of the League of Assassins. Another image is almost certainly the logo of the Court of Owls, giving more credence to the many rumors of an upcoming Court of Owls Batman game.

With Sony’s State of Play announcement coming tomorrow, many fans are speculating that a new Batman game is right around the corner. While a sequel to Arkham Knight would be met with much excitement among players, it’s equally likely to be a new game which could start another trilogy with a fresh over-arching plot. The logos displayed in the video seem suspiciously like faction icons, something eerily akin to the ones used for multiplayer scoring in the WB-produced Mortal Kombat games. If that’s the case, we could very well be looking at the first images of some sort of multiplayer game set in the Batman universe.
