Backstreet Boy AJ McLean shows up to Tutor Dancing with the Stars’ Lauren Alaina. The blast from the past was a welcome change that brought a lighter, more uplifting feel to the weekly show.

The ABC dance show brought back a nostalgic period for their viewers by asking the celebrities and their dance partners to choose a song that had been sung by a girl or boy band. The competitors danced to bands such as TLC, Spice Girls, En Vogue, The Pointer Sisters, Backstreet Boys, BTS, New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men, and *NSYNC. The show even welcomed guest judge, Joey Fatone of *NSYNC, who split his pants while dancing to his own band’s song “Tearing Up My Heart” number but luckily recovered quickly.

Women everywhere are living vicariously through their 13-year-old selves with an original boyband guest star, AJ McLean. When McLean received “The Call” he was more than happy to lend a helping hand to one of the competitors. In the recent episode of the dancing show (via Us Weekly), the competitors had to choose a song from a girl or boyband and Lauren Alaina chose to rumba to the Backstreet Boys, “I Want it That Way.” In Monday night’s episode, Alaina shared with viewers that she originally met the Backstreet Boys at an award show in June of 2018. The country singer had the privilege of singing “Everybody” with the famous boyband for an Instagram video. The 25-year-old also said she had remained close friend with McLean ever since.

The 41-year-old music icon raved about Alaina’s talents, saying, “Lauren is the most talented person in quite some time.” During their rehearsal, McLean demonstrated the famous Backstreet Boys choreography that made all the young girls scream out for them during their concerts. He said to her, “She’s dominated the singing part, and now she’s dominating with her feet. I wish you the best of luck, babe. You’re gonna kill it.” With a mentor like McLean, Alaina obviously felt the pressure to perform. She told the cameras, “I need to nail this dance, and I cannot let the Backstreet Boys down.”

The dance earned the country singer nines across the board and the judges said goodbye to Sean Spicer after weeks of low scores. Even Fatone appreciated the dance though he did say that if he were to score the song choice it would have to be a zero - due to the infamous *NSYNC/Back Street Boy’s feud. Fans were pleased with the theme and welcome another chance at the theme for next season of this hit ABC show.
