Voice chat not working is an issue on every platform: PC, PS4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Series X|S. However, you won’t be stuck in a silent party and relegated to Back 4 Blood’s ping system forever. There are some workarounds, which we cover in the tips and tricks guide below.
How to Fix Broken Voice Chat
Communication is key to multiplayer play, so voice chat not working just won’t do. Luckily, there are multiple different solutions to this problem, each with varying success rates.
The most consistent solution across all platforms is to ensure that you are strictly using the in-game voice chat only. Players have noticed that being in an active call or party in the background has caused in-game chat to fail.
If you’re still having issues with voice chat not working, double-check your in-game audio settings. Make sure that the device for your voice input is correctly set to the microphone that you are using, as it may have defaulted to something else. Check to make sure that both your volumes are high enough while you’re in these settings as well.
Another common fix that console players have found is to make sure your headset is connected directly to your controller. If you have your headset connected through a Mixamp or any other external device that isn’t plugged straight into your controller, this will likely cause a voice chat not working error. If you’re using a wireless headset, you may have to switch it out for a wired one.
If none of the above issues get you past the voice chat not working error, you can try your hand at the generic troubleshooting methods:
Force-quitting the Back 4 Blood application and relaunching it Perform a hard reset of your console or PC If you’re able to get into a game, then it’s not an internet issue, so don’t bother troubleshooting your network
If all else fails, you may have to resort to inviting the players to an external party if you want to be able to communicate. You can also directly contact the Back 4 Blood support and submit a bug report, though considering the commonality of the issue, the developers are likely already looking into it.
