Jed Wyatt, the winner of last season’s The Bachelorette, just released a new song that’s all about falling in love. While Wyatt effectively transformed into a villain after winning his season of The Bachelorette, he hasn’t allowed the public disdain to impact his music career. After announcing his new girlfriend on social media, Wyatt is making headlines once again with his brand new single, “Risk.”

Wyatt first appeared on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette. Although he openly admitted that he originally came on the show to enhance his music career, he also stated that he was developing real feelings for Brown. He played songs for her on more than one occasion and wasn’t often seen without his trusty guitar. While some fans questioned his intentions, his country melodies won Brown’s heart. She chose him as her winner and he got down on one knee to pop the question. Their engagement, however, was short-lived. Soon after filming ended, news broke of a girlfriend Wyatt left behind when he went on the show. Rather than breaking things off, he told the woman to wait for him, making it clear that The Bachelorette was nothing more than a career opportunity. When Brown found out about Wyatt’s ex, she broke off their engagement and attended the After the Final Rose special as a single woman. While Brown emerged as a Bachelor Nation favorite, Wyatt earned the title of the scorned ex who broke her heart.

Instead of shying away from the subject of love, Wyatt is leaning in to the magic of a relationship in his new song, “Risk.” While talking to Us Weekly, the former Bachelorette contestant said that “Risk” is a pop-country tune, the first Wyatt has ever released in that genre. “I just had this idea come to me that was like, you know, there’s times in life where you want to take a chance on someone and your friends try to talk you out of it or tell you that it might not be the best idea, but you kind of want to listen to your heart and go for it anyway ‘cause you’re super attracted to them or into them in general," the singer said. Although  Wyatt recorded this tune independently, he still hopes to sign a record deal someday. For now, however, Wyatt is focused on another upcoming song release, which will be followed by his debut EP.

Wyatt made it clear that his time on The Bachelorette, while difficult, served to enhance his creative energy.  “Once I was able to ground myself, the creativity started sparking again,” Wyatt said. “Music has always been where I go for almost any emotion, so I’m glad to be back and be creative with it.” However, it’s possible that new love might be the source of Wyatt’s new creative energy, rather than past heartbreak. Since leaving the show, Wyatt has announced his new relationship with model Ellen Decker, and he says that he owes the inspiration behind much of his new music to her. “She has brought a whole new level of inspiration into my life. I’ve just never met anyone like her,” Wyatt said. “It just kind of opened the door for a lot of new feelings and emotions in my music that’ll come out in the future, I’m sure.”

Considering his very public relationship history, Wyatt releasing a song about the risk of falling in love is more than ironic. Although no one deserves to be hated forever, Wyatt’s musical success means he truly got everything he wanted from his appearance on The Bachelorette. The show certainly offers a strong platform for future career endeavors, but Wyatt’s apparent lack of remorse for the hearts he broke to find success is frustrating. Still, everyone has to move on eventually. If Wyatt wants to continue pursuing a music career while battling the effects of his bad reputation, more power to him.
