The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison did some of his own investigative work in order to uncover the truth behind the drama with contestant Peter Weber’s ex-girlfriend, whom he was rumored to be dating before joining the reality competition show. The scandal has been a big focus of the latest season, and now fans will finally get some closure.
On this season of ABC’s The Bachelorette, star Hannah Brown has had plenty of drama to deal with relating to her suitors. Contestant Luke Parker sex shamed her by telling her he’d go home if he found out she’d slept with any of the other men. It turns out that she had sex with a contestant in a windmill (twice) and told Parker that before abruptly sending him home. Then, there were rumors that two of the remaining contestants, Jed Wyatt and Weber, had girlfriends before going on the show. Wyatt’s ex later confirmed that they were in a relationship up until the moment he left for filming. Meanwhile, Weber’s ex questioned his intentions on the show, saying that he had been planning a future with her before ending things suddenly. Now, Harrison said he has all the details of Weber’s ex drama.
On The Ringer’s Bachelor Party podcast, guest hosted by ET’s Lauren Zima, Harrison opened up about the controversy surrounding Weber and his ex-girlfriend, Calee Lutes, who previously revealed that Weber left her in order to be on the show. Harrison already planned on grilling Wyatt about his former relationship during the “After the Final Rose” special, which aired after the season finale, and he told Zima he wouldn’t approach Weber any “differently.” The host added, however, that Weber had “a little explaining to do” because he’d done “some digging” and discovered new things about the scandal. Since some of Lutes’ claims dealt with The Bachelorette casting, according to Harrison, he wanted to “ask around” and find out what really happened. It sounds like he doesn’t quite buy Lutes’ story.
He told Zima, “Peter’s ex… has her version… it might be her truth because that’s her perspective of being broken up with is you’re hurt and you didn’t see this coming.” Harrison then explained he knew the story behind how Weber was approached by the show and that it was actually “funny.” Weber later spoke with People, explaining that the casting process for The Bachelorette occurred months after his split from Lutes, who said she felt “betrayed” by his appearance on the show. Weber even said he was, at one point, more invested in the relationship than Lutes was, and that she was the one who didn’t want to move forward. Despite the two of them not agreeing on how things went down, Weber said he regrets hurting someone he cares about, adding “breakups suck!”
The Bachelorette fans already know that Brown didn’t give Weber her final rose, and it had nothing to do with his controversial past. Hopefully, now that this season is over and the ex-girlfriend drama has been put to rest, Brown, Weber, and Lutes can all move forward. And hopefully, this will be a warning for future contestants to not get seriously involved with anyone else before going on the reality show.
