Former contestant on The Bachelorette Mike Johnson is branching out from the reality TV world and pursuing another creative field: writing. In the aftermath of his appearance on Bachelor in Paradise this summer, the Bachelor Nation star is working on a new book, set to release next year.

Johnson first appeared on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette. He stood out among fans for his brutal honesty, sweet disposition, and gorgeous smile. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old established more of a friendship with the bachelorette, leading to his tearful goodbye with Brown the week before hometown dates. His exit broke hearts across the nation, but Bachelor Nation hadn’t yet seen the last of this lovable man. He reappeared on the latest season of Bachelor in Paradise, and fans were hopeful that he would either find the love he was looking for or go on to become the Bachelor. Sadly, neither happened. Although Johnson attempted a relationship with Sydney Lotuaco, things between the two of them fizzled out. Johnson left Paradise alone and was beaten out for the coveted position of Bachelor by Peter Weber. Still, the reality star won’t let anything get him down. Not only is he casually dating superstar Demi Lovato, he already has a new project in the works.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Johnson revealed that he’s trying his hand at writing. “I have a book coming out next year,” Johnson explained. “It’s about self-love and body positivity.” Though Johnson works primarily as a portfolio manager, his desire to expand his resume extends beyond his reality TV credits. He didn’t reveal too much about his new endeavor, offering just enough information to pique the interests of his fans.

Although Johnson gave sparing details about his new publication, he was less tight-lipped about his relationship with Tayshia Adams. Following speculation that they were cozying up to each other at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Johnson made it clear that nothing was going on between the two Bachelor in Paradise co-stars. He explained that Adams is very happy in her relationship with John Paul Jones, and that moving in on a friend’s girl is something he would never do. “She’s an attractive woman, but not for me,” Johnson said of Adams. “She’s in a relationship and I may or may not be talking to someone as well,” he continued, referencing his budding flirtation with Lovato.

In Johnson, ABC had a chance to add some diversity to one of their most popular shows. They didn’t, upsetting many Bachelor Nation fans who gave an outpouring of support to Johnson after Weber was announced. However, it seems Johnson may be the least bothered of anyone. Even though he was passed by for the role of The Bachelor, he’s not allowing one disappointment to stop his momentum. His desire to channel his own knowledge and experience into a publication that may help other people is the perfect example of why fans fell in love with him in the first place.
