Hannah Brown’s teased reunion with Peter Weber on the upcoming season of The Bachelor needed to happen, according to host Chris Harrison. Most promos for the season have featured an intimate conversation between the TV exes. However, the clips have only left fans confused as to the state of their relationship.

Brown and Weber first met on Hannah’s season of The Bachelorette. Although the pilot did his best to win her heart, Brown sent him home after an epic night in the Fantasy Suite. When her engagement to Jed Wyatt fell apart before the end of the season, Brown turned her attention to runner-up Tyler Cameron, cementing the idea that she and Weber were nothing more than friends. While Hannah went on to compete on Dancing with the Stars, Weber stepped into his new role as the Bachelor. At that point, things appeared to be officially over between the two exes. However, fans were shocked when promos for Peter’s season showed Brown not only exciting the limo, but also showing up later in the season for another conversation with the lead. From the looks of the footage, things between the two were a little more than just friendly. However, host Chris Harrison is now offering his own opinion on the much-anticipated reunion.

In a recent interview with E!, Harrison clarified Hannah’s intent on Weber’s season. “I think it’s something that needed to be dealt with, the relationship,” Harrison said. “I think it’s a relationship that didn’t have a clean, clear break.” Harrison went on to explain that he believed there were underlying feelings for both Weber and Brown that neither had effectively dealt with, or even realized. “I knew once they saw each other, they probably hadn’t really dealt with them all, so I think it’s a hurdle that we needed to clear before we moved forward,” Harrison explained. The Bachelor host stated that he believes the couple really fell in love on Hannah’s season and that Brown’s participation in Weber’s process was an important part of both of them coming to terms with the result of their relationship.

When Hannah chose Jed Wyatt at the end of her season, she thought she found her happily ever after. Before the couple were allowed to go public, however, a former girlfriend of Wyatt emerged stating that they had been dating when he went on the show. After learning that Wyatt asked another woman to wait for him, Brown ended the engagement. Although she seemed interested in rekindling her relationship with runner-up Tyler Cameron, he quickly moved on to date Gigi Hadid. As Hannah’s third choice, thoughts of what may have happened had she chose Weber probably ran through her mind, interfering in her ability to move on.

While the conversation between Weber and Brown seems intense and intimate, especially since Weber asks her to join the other girls in the house, Harrison’s comments suggest that the conversation was more about closure than anything else. While he admits that some feelings still exist between the couple, he also talks about moving forward, suggesting that Hannah is certainly not the girl that ends up with Peter this season. While their conversation may reignite a few dormant sparks, it’s unlikely that their discussion is anything more than an exchange between exes.
