Close your eyes and imagine the worst possible way for this season to end. Okay, now open your eyes and read the story of how Peter Weber chooses Victoria Fuller in The Bachelor finale despite sending her home a week ago.

Victoria was not liked by much of the fan base this season, much of that her own doing. She had modeled for a “White Lives Matter” campaign before coming on the show. Throughout the season, she was unable to communicate effectively with Peter, especially when he tried to clear the air with her about her reputation for “breaking up marriages” in her hometown of Virginia Beach. They went on a one-on-one date, where country music star Chase Rice was playing. Victoria claimed that she and Chase used to date, while Chase later said it was only a hook-up. The difference between what Victoria said and what others claimed seemed to be at constant odds with one another. In the end, none of this appeared to affect Peter, who brought Victoria all the way to the fantasy suite round before eliminating her in favor of Madison Prewett and Hannah Ann Sluss. Is she gone for good, though.

A post on Reddit projects that Peter may have spoiled the unpredictable outcome during the Women Tell All. It mentioned that, at one point, Peter said to Victoria, “I really do feel good about our relationship.” He spoke in the present tense, as if they had not ended things. Chris Harrison even invited Victoria onto the hot seat without Peter, which isn’t always the case for recently eliminated contestants.

This is an odd season for many reasons, but in part because we haven’t been tipped off as to who the winner might ultimately be. As a result, there are a flood of theories out there. Peter could end up with someone not even on our radar. He could end up with no one. The craziest one so far has to be this: that Peter, after making the wise decision to send Victoria home - albeit a far too late one - he convinces himself that she was the right one for him and takes her back.

Victoria likely doesn’t deserve as much hate as she’s gotten. And, based on her sit-down with Chris on Women Tell All, it does sound like she’s learned some of her lessons. But Chris also failed to question her further on the allegation of breaking up marriages and, more importantly, the “White Lives Matter” modeling campaign. The reason could be that Peter does choose her after all, which of course is the worst way the season could end. It would also make perfect sense, given what we’ve seen thus far.
