Mean cost of repairing a fence

When it comes to repairing a fence, whether around a house or a farm, we want the best so that we don’t have to repair it multiple times. Still, there are many unfortunate situations due to which you need to repair your fence. To repair any fence in the United States, on average, will cost $550, with the minimum price at $50 and the maximum at $2500. This cost will vary depending on your location also. In urban areas, it’s very less wanted unless it is a traditional family, so charges are relatively low for it, but the service charge is very high. When it comes to the outskirts of the cities where most farms are there, the fencing charges are high, and most of them like to do it themselves; hence service charges are low.

Types of the fence and their average repair price

There are basically five types of fences based on the type of material used for fencing. Based on the material, the repair is processed. These five types of fences are:

Wooden fence – On average, restoration of a wooden fence costs $560 within a typical range of $300 to $830. Due to high wind or rotten or mold-infested boards, the wooden fence needs to be replaced. Replacing a post costs about $100 to $300, and repairing a section costs about $120 to $300 for a twelve-foot section of fence. In general, $15 to $25 is the cost per linear foot to replace any wooden part. Lattice fence – This is not that highly preferred type of fence, yet it lasts longer than wooden fences. Replacing a lattice fence costs about $20 to $45 per linear foot because it requires more material to make a section. So, in order to replace a twelve-foot section, it will cost around $250 to $500. Vinyl or Polyvinyl Chloride fence – They face similar issues as any wooden fence. They rot and are sometimes destroyed by molds or high winds. So, their restoration costs an average of $520, with the range varying from $250 to $785. The materials used for replacement are too expensive, as you must replace the entire panel or section in most cases. It costs $25 to $35 per linear foot for replacement sections. Chain–link fences – Chain-link fences are one of the cheapest and easiest fences to install. These costs an average of $475 for repair. These are the best type of fences as they seldom need repairs as the wind can easily blow through them. They are damaged in general due to vehicles that crash on these fences. Straightening a post could cost around $50 to $100, and replacing a gate completely charges between $125 and $300. These chain-link repairs are very easy and can be done by oneself. These are a type of DIY repair, and they can save your labor cost for any typical repair work. Stone or Rock or Concrete or Mortar fence – Only labor expense has occurred for stone repair fences as the rocks can be reused. The requirement for a concrete or mortar type of fence is a concrete mix or mortar to repair cracks or holes. All of these are labor-intensive. So the charges are on the basis of price per person-hour with supplies. This range varies from $100 to up to $300 depending on the size of repair which is needed.

Factors affecting the cost

The three important factors which affect the cost to repair any fence depend on height, length, and the material used.

Height – In general, fences are 4 to 6 feet tall. So, the taller the fence higher is the repair price as more material is needed for reparation. Sometimes, large fences need to be cut down for heights like five and a half feet. Length – Based on how many feet long the fence is damaged will determine what one needs to pay. Sometimes, it costs less to replace an entire section than to repair a small portion of it. Material – Based on the material used to repair the fence, it will determine the need for the new supplies, the cost of the material, and the labor charges.

Conclusion

Repairing a fence in the U.S. costs an average of $600. This range will vary based on the length, height, and material used for repairing. Some repairs are labor-intensive, and some can be done very easily. The basic fences frequently used are wooden, lattice fences, PVC or Vinyl fences, chain-link fences, or stone or concrete fences. Other than this, aluminum or steel fences are also used frequently, whose repair costs an average of $515.
