Iron Man officially makes Spider-Man the newest Avenger in new footage for Avengers: Infinity War. Spider-Man is still a relatively new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe following a groundbreaking deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. But Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker has already been infused into the MCU, making two appearances in two years. Captain America: Civil War introduced him into the MCU and Spider-Man: Homecoming gave him a coming of age story, but it’ll be Infinity War that really shows him in all his glory.

It’s already been shown that Peter will don the new Iron Spider costume Tony presented him with at the end of Homecoming, and he’ll use it in his travels across the galaxy with the Avengers. Spidey will even go toe-to-toe with Thanos (Josh Brolin), as the youngest hero fights alongside the biggest heroes in the MCU. Not only will he be joining them on this adventure, but it seems he’ll get a promotion along the line as well.

Disney debuted two new TV spots for Avengers: Infinity War during the livestream of the HaloWC 2018 Columbus Finals. For two short spots, they pack in quite a lot of new footage. The biggest moment, though, is when Tony Stark officially makes Peter Parker an Avenger. You can watch the Spidey TV spot above, followed by another spot directly below.

Spider-Man officially becoming an Avenger is a big step for him, especially since he’s getting it so quickly. But, he’s already proven his bravery, and judging by the trailers, he isn’t going to sit back and wait for someone to ask him to help save the day. What will really be telling is if, after a space-traveling adventure (one that possibly sees his mentor perish), he still remains a part of the super team, or if he elects to continue to do his own thing primarily once the war with Thanos is over.

As important of a moment as Spidey becoming an Avenger is, that’s far from the only new footage shown. A new shot of Hulk getting angry (likely aboard the ship from the end of Thor: Ragnarok) is also shown, along with a scene of Star-Lord pumping up the Guardians before meeting Thanos. The second spot is much more ominous, painting the heroes as being in much more trouble. An extended look at Vision and Scarlet Witch talking in Wakanda has the android sounding less than optimistic about their chances of survival. As the rollout of new footage continues over the next month, Marvel could continue to market the dour nature of Avengers: Infinity War - only to further prepare fans for the doom and gloom Thanos will bring.
