Two new stills from Avengers: Infinity War show off Peter Parker’s new Iron Spider suit and its special features. Avengers 3 just passed Avengers: Age of Ultron at the domestic box office and the film could surpass the rest of the MCU this weekend. The coming together of so many heroes and the culmination of a decade worth of stories has attracted plenty of people to theaters, but there were a lot of other things that helped Marvel sell so many tickets.

One of the big appeals of any new superhero movie is the chance to see the characters don different costumes. Avengers: Infinity War was no different, though its packed roster meant that not everyone received an upgrade. There’s also the fact that many heroes were just off films that saw them in new duds, like T’Challa in Black Panther or Thor in Thor: Ragnarok. Heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow all got brand-new looks, while War Machine got a slight upgrade from his last appearance. Even Thanos looks different in Avengers 3. But the most buzzed-about costume change was Spider-Man getting a variation of the Iron Spider suit from the comics.

Marvel released two new stills from Avengers: Infinity War that put the spotlight on the Iron Spider suit. The first shows Spidey standing tall on Thanos’ Q-Ship after first acquiring his new suit. Blending his existing costume with Tony’s Iron Man look, the costume also pulls some design elements from Peter’s Big Time costume in the comics, as well as the glowing blue eyes from his post-Secret Wars look in Amazing Spider-Man. The second image, meanwhile, features the hero on Titan deploying his extra legs, the most iconic trait from the Iron Spider suit on the page.

Though the movie costume features four additional appendages instead of three (which, after all, makes a lot more sense for an arachnid), little else in the design mirrors the Iron Spider costume Peter received from Tony in the comics. The MCU version does, however, do a much better job of honoring Spidey’s look, whereas the one on the page looked much closer to an Iron Man suit. There’s also presumably a lot more tech that we didn’t get a chance to see, but perhaps it will debut when Spider-Man inevitably returns in Avengers 4.

For now, Spider-Man is one of the many who fell during Avengers: Infinity War. In fact, his death was the most affecting and has been the cause of many shed tears (and plenty of memes) amongst fans. It’s all the more impressive when you learn Tom Holland improvised his death scene. Tony and Peter had a special relationship, and the Iron Spider suit was meant to protect the young hero. Unfortunately, there’s no stopping the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, even if Spidey survived a bit longer than his fellow Avengers.

Avengers: Infinity War is heading into its third week at the box office and it’s already one for the ages. Avengers 3 may hit $2 billion when all is said and done, joining a rare group of movies in the history of cinema. And though a chance to see the Iron Spider suit in action doesn’t deserve a huge amount of credit, it was certainly one of the exciting aspects that helped make Avengers: Infinity War into a cultural event.
