Avengers: Infinity War is now Marvel Studios’ biggest movie ever in China. Since the very beginning of its theatrical run, Infinity War wasted no time breaking all sorts of records. One of the biggest achievements was scoring the top-grossing opening weekend ever domestically. In the same weekend, the film also nabbed the biggest opening worldwide. The latter is particularly impressive since it did so without first debuting in China.

Just as it was everywhere else, the anticipation for Infinity War was huge in the Middle Kingdom. Even before Marvel’s 19th movie debuted, it had already broken China’s ticket presale record. Those figures made it clear that Infinity War was going to have an impressive run at the Chinese box office - and that much has been proved right.

LA Times reports that after Avengers: Infinity War’s second weekend in China, the movie cruised into Marvel Studios’ top spot in the territory. The film now sits at just over $300 million in China alone and it still has time to climb even higher. In order to claim this record, Infinity War passed Avengers: Age of Ultron’s $240 million haul from 2015.

This is just the latest in a long line of records that Infinity War has now claimed, and it may not be the last. With it’s currently sitting at over $1.8 billion, Thanos and the Avengers have a very real shot at hitting the rare $2 billion mark. It’s starting to receive more competition on a weekly basis thanks to the summer blockbuster season getting underway, but the fact that it has earned this much money in just a month puts it in great position. It also helps that the movie has been so highly anticipated (it is the 19th movie in a series with a decade-long buildup, after all) and has received great reviews and reactions from the start.

Whatever Infinity War’s final tally is at the box office, Marvel Studios is clearly having a record setting year. Just between what Infinity War and Black Panther have done so far, the studio is already sitting on over $3 billion at the box office. Considering both movies are still in theaters (a truly remarkable feat for Black Panther), they’ll only continue to add to their individual totals and Marvel’s haul as a whole. Audiences also can’t forget that Ant-Man and The Wasp is coming out this July, which means Marvel Studios has the opportunity to really make 2018 a year that will stay in the record books for years to come.
