Almost two months since Avengers: Infinity War debuted, fans look back at some of the most popular death theories which didn’t happen in the film. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel Studios’ 10th-year offering also began the culmination of the overall narrative that the franchise has been treading since 2008’s Iron Man.

Considering its broad scope, not to mention all the hyping from all people involved, fans had been understandably invested in formulating their own theories as to what might go down in the film. Deaths were particularly a favorite topic, especially since the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were facing their most dangerous adversary yet, Thanos. But Kevin Feige and his team were able to preserve secrecy around the film, pulling off possibly one of the most shocking twists in MCU history.

Reddit user captainamerica5008 decided to take a look back at one of the most popular Infinity War death predictions, and Marvel fans are getting a kick out of it. The list details which characters were most likely to die, which ones were supposedly safe, and which ones could either survive Thanos’ wrath or not. As most people postulated, the original Avengers such as Iron Man and Captain America were on top of the “Good Chance They’re Gonna Die” bracket, while Peter Parker, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy fell on the “Will Be Fine, Just Fine” category. Obviously, fans got that totally wrong as most of the second-generation Marvel heroes were the ones who were snuffed out of existence, while the founding Avengers remains intact.

Aside from the dead pool, people in the comment thread also started talking about the theories they were initially so sure of happening that ultimately didn’t come to fruition in Infinity War. Popular ones involve the secret location of the Soul Stone - which some were admittedly very confident about the mysterious place to be Wakanda, while others subscribed to the idea that it may be with Captain America, Tony Stark, or even with Hawkeye. Another good talking point were claims that Pepper Potts was actually inside the Iron Man suit in Titan and not Tony.

Having said all that, it doesn’t mean that the principal MCU characters will be all safe come Avengers 4. If anything, Avengers: Infinity War was a set-up for an original Avengers reunion as they attempt to save the universe from the predicament that Thanos’ snap left it in.  The forthcoming mission could very well be the final hurrah for the current team before some of the actors finally move on from their superhero gigs - either by their characters retiring or, sadly, by dying. It’s also no secret that, in the process of defeating Thanos, most of the currently dead heroes will likely be resurrected one way or another (or that all future sequels will actually be prequels to Infinity War). So, in hindsight, the aforementioned dead pool can still come to fruition.
