Unsurprisingly, Avengers: Endgame is the most anticipated blockbuster of 2019 according to a new poll conducted by Fandango. Audiences have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the film since the shocking ending of Infinity War, which saw Thanos accomplish his mission and wipe out half of the universe’s population. Endgame, which only recently received its first trailer, is billed as the culminating chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date - capping off an unprecedented 22-movie arc that’s been ongoing since 20008’s Iron Man. Seeing that the franchise has collectively brought in more than $17 billion at the worldwide box office, it’s safe to say several people are invested in Endgame.

2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for movies (Disney, in particular), as several other high-profile properties will be coming out with their latest installments. The Star Wars sequel trilogy will come to a close with J.J. Abrams’ Episode IX; Woody, Buzz, and the gang return for Toy Story 4; and DC is hoping to build off the financial success of Aquaman with Shazam and Joker. There’s plenty to be excited about, but all eyes are on what Marvel has up its sleeve.

According to Fandango’s annual most anticipated survey, Avengers: Endgame is 2019’s most anticipated blockbuster. The Mouse House is well-represented on the list, as seven of the 10 mentioned are Disney distributed. That group doesn’t include Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is a joint venture between Sony and Marvel Studios. Check out the full Most Anticipated Blockbusters list below:

Most would agree with these choices, as they’re poised to be some of the biggest offerings 2019. If there’s anything unexpected, it’s arguably Captain Marvel edging out Star Wars for the second spot, though there are sound reasons to explain that. For starters, Captain Marvel comes out in March, while Episode IX won’t premiere until December 2019. For some, it might be easier to get more excited for something that’s sooner. Additionally, Lucasfilm has yet to kick off an Episode IX marketing campaign, whereas there are two Captain Marvel trailers readily available online that have been building buzz for Carol Danvers’ solo film. That Star Wars 9 was able to rank so high without anything concrete to ground enthusiasm in (even Joker has the plethora of leaked set photos) speaks volumes and indicates the franchise might be well off after its extended post-Solo break.

Captain Marvel popped up frequently on Fandango’s poll, winning Most Anticipated New Standalone Comic Book Movie (topping Joker) and Most Anticipated Actress for Brie Larson (who beat out her MCU co-star Scarlett Johansson). Elsewhere, Tom Hanks is the year’s Most Anticipated Actor thanks to Toy Story 4 (the survey’s most anticipated animated film) and the upcoming Fred Rogers biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Disney’s live-action Aladdin looks to boost the careers of Rising Female Movie Star Naomi Scott (who’s also in Charlie’s Angels) and Rising Male Movie Star Mena Massoud (who topped Us’ Winston Duke). Speaking of Us, Jordan Peele’s sophomore directorial effort finished second in Most Anticipated Horror/Thriller, trailing only IT: Chapter 2. The survey polled more than 3,500 viewers at the end of December.
