Marvel’s classic heroes are launching their own new comic with Avengers: Back To Basics. As the title suggests, the comic will see Marvel’s best heroes take on stories, situations, and a style meant to throw fans back to the Golden Age of comic book superheroes. And judging by the first few pages in our exclusive preview of Back To Basics #1, help every comic fan remember what it was like to witness the glory days of Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk - through the eyes of Kamala Khan.

That’s right, the newest Ms. Marvel is the one officially reliving the newest Marvel project coming March 7th exclusively to comiXology Originals. Framed as classic adventures delivered to Kamala through a twist on virtual reality, her role is promised to bring the 6-issue bi-weekly comic series to its conclusion. We won’t spoil too much about where Back To Basics ends, and simply say that if Marvel fans wished to see Kamala Khan defy history and meet the original Avengers… they may be in luck. But first, there’s the matter of Thor, a solar eclipse, and the coming of Ragnarok to deal with.

The entire series is written by Peter David (Spider-Man 2099) with art by Brian Level on issues #1-2 and #5-6, and Juanan Ramirez on issues #3-4, and Nick Roche and Chris O’Halloran on covers.  The series is the fourth comic developed as part of comiXology Originals, following Thor Vs Hulk, The Immortal Iron Fists, and Black Panther: Long Live The King. They’re all aimed to please any reader old or new, so long as the title heroes catch their eye (or have been favorites for years).

Take a look at the preview pages below to see how Marvel hopes to “capture the imagination of all readers” in the most surefire way imaginable: a pile of superhero adventures to choose from, and a kid eager to enjoy them all.

These pages kick off the first of three two-part stories, clearly connected to the Norse characters and mythology of Thor. It seems the Incredible Hulk will be taken along for the ride, and that combo proved effective in the recent Thor: Ragnarok. Iron Man? He’s just a bonus. Stories centered on Captain Marvel and the original 1964 Avengers will follow, while putting a secret twist on Kamala Khan’s role as mere observer to the action.

If this preview has piqued your interest, then you can enjoy the rest of the first issue on March 7th on comiXology and Kindle, available instantly to comiXology Unlimited subscribers.
