Kevin Feige teased that Avengers 4 will be about the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes learning how to become “a true team” together. Fans may still not know the title for next year’s Avengers movie, but the man behind the MCU has provided a hint about what they can expect from the next Marvel Studios ensemble and it sounds like the remaining heroes, as well as their upcoming recruits, will have to set aside their differences to ultimately defeat Thanos.

As the ultimate culminating film of the MCU’s first decade, it’s quite odd that the movie has fewer key players compared to this year’s Avengers: Infinity War, but it’ll also allow a more complex storyline since there are fewer characters to shine a spotlight on. Still, the movie will have its complications, especially considering it may officially establish the concept of time travel in the MCU. The fate of the universe is currently in the hands of the surviving heroes, including the six founding members of the Avengers. But while they have been fighting side by side for a few years now, it seems like they’ll need to re-establish their working dynamic in order to avenge the galaxy from the Mad Titan’s galactic genocide.

While Marvel Studios’ presentation during the European film exhibitors’ conference CineEurope in Barcelona, Spain, didn’t feature a special first look at next year’s Avengers 4, or a title reveal, Feige still shared some information about what people can look forward to in the movie. According to the company boss - as shared on Twitter by Nikita Byrkin, who was present at the event - next year’s Phase 3 capper will see the remaining MCU heroes learn how to truly be in a team. According to Byrkin, Feige said, “We are going to see our characters make an effort to become a true team with one another.”

Based on Feige’s latest statement, it seems like the Avengers (at least the original members) are coming full circle as they find themselves trying to re-learn how to work well with each other. An early draft of Infinity War included a reunion between Tony and Steve, but writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely explained that they ultimately decided not to include it as it took too much screen time when the film was supposed to be focusing on establishing Thanos. Considering the events of Captain America: Civil War wedged a divide between Tony and Steve, alongside their respective teams, it’ll be interesting to know how their first meeting in at least two years will go down considering their first real defeat at the hands of the Mad Titan. It’s safe to say that the two in-conflict heroes will have no choice but to set aside their differences and band together come Avengers 4.

It’s important to note as well that it has been more than six years since the original team fought as a complete unit during the Battle of New York. Sure, they might’ve gone up against Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but, they had the assist from massively powerful heroes such as Vision and Scarlet Witch (who are both currently dead). This also coincides with running theories about Avengers 4 revisiting the Battle of New York from 2012’s The Avengers. Each individual has gone through a lot over the last several years, so they would need to be re-acquainted with each other to be able to work as a single team.

Obviously, Ant-Man/Scott Lang and Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers are also joining the final bout against Thanos. It’s still unclear how they’d specifically fit in the Avengers 4 narrative other than the fact that they’re both really powerful (yes, even Ant-Man). Chances are that it will have to do something with the Quantum Realm considering both Ant-Man & The Wasp and Captain Marvel will explore the Microverse.
